Summertime

Image
Summer. In KY, that usually means all those months from mid May through mid October. We have one July day left before August. The heat is just beginning I fear! It’s a mostly cloudy 79° on the porch as I begin this entry. It’s just 0637 in the morning.  Forecast is for less humidity today. We shall see!  I filled the hummingbird feeders yesterday and there are six or seven hummingbirds fighting over eight places for them to eat. They are so territorial! They never learned to share!  I love sitting on the porch. My coffee is wonderful this morning. The chorus of birds is at it beautifully this morning.  The cicadas are a bit loud. Hopefully they’ll go away soon!  Since my last post, one of our sister churches started a revival Sunday night.  My first nephew has 2 boys who both went to the altar and both were saved by Grace! I’ve been to that church several times over the years. I have multiple generations of family in that cemetery.  Driving home from work one evening earlier in the wee

Last Sunday in July!

Good morning! It’s a very muggy 75° on the porch already.  There’s light fog in the distance and a few clouds.  Intermittent rain was forecast for this afternoon.  Two years ago, according to my Facebook memories, it was 58° in the morning on this date.  Wish it was today.   My friend in Logan county has been busy this morning already….. I do have laundry on (she’s completed 3 loads among most of her chores already!) and I filled the coffee pods holder…. And my hummingbird feeders are washed and filled. Meds are taken and I have my first cup of coffee going.  No one else is up yet so I haven’t started breakfast.   As some of you know, my cousin found her dad passed away early Friday morning.  He appeared to have gone peacefully during the early hours. He’s someone I’ve known all my life.  He was my uncle, my high school bus driver, a preacher, and when I was in my teens, he was my boss.  I’ve spent many hours in his tobacco patch pulling plants to set.  He’d fly on that tractor and tho

Another July day

It’s 68° on the porch this morning. The sky is pink with smoky fog. The wind is still. There’s no crispness to the air.  Definitely not fall-like 68°.  I hear a robin, cardinal, Bob white (he’s close) crows, doves, and a number of other birds singing melody.  The cicadas are chiming in too.  I haven’t seen a hummingbird yet this morning but I’m sure I will.  Y’all be safe.  I’m having my coffee while my biscuits bake. There’s plenty. Come on.  Gonna be some bacon, “May-toe”,  “tay-toes” and gravy too.  If ya want, I can fry up a little cackle fruit too.  ๐Ÿฅš  Don’t forget to pray!  I love all y’all!❤️ Have a blessed day!

Good morning!☀️

It’s a warm 68° on the porch this morning. The sun is up with a few stray high clouds. Birds are singing. Cicadas are pretty loud this morning.  I hear our roosters proclaiming morning has broken as well.  There’s also quite a bit of road noise in the distance.   My hummingbirds are feeding well this morning too. I filled the feeders late Sunday night.  They weren’t as active yesterday I think. Looks like it’ll be tomorrow before I hafta fill them again.   I don’t hafta look far to know ragweed is in abundance. I just hafta open my eyes in the morning.  Stuck together. Sandpaper.  Singular might need a helper this year.  Exactly what good is ragweed?  Please remember to pray for those who’ve lost loved ones recently. Pray for our community, county and country. Pray for our leaders at all levels.  Pray for your family. For your neighbors. Just pray.  As our pastor once said, “pray until you pray”.  I need that advice.   I love all y’all. ❤️ Have a blessed day!

It’s Sunday

I’m sitting on the porch waiting for the rain. It’s a warm 79° with an occasional warm breeze. Birds are singing. Hummingbirds are doing their thing. Cicada noise is nominal right now.   I can’t believe it’s the middle of July already. The older I get the quicker the years seem to fly.  I know. It really can’t go any faster than it’s supposed to.  Twenty four hours in a day, seven days in a week, fifty-two weeks in a year….  When I was a kid, summer seemed to last forever.  I remember lying in my bed at night looking out my open window and still seeing light until almost 9pm.  It is still that way now, but it doesn’t seem to last as long. Maybe it’s because I didn’t pay much attention? The hours of sunlight are shortening a few seconds here and there and on my work days, I can really tell.  I filled my hummingbird feeders yesterday morning.  They are almost empty already.  I was worried if my birds suffered while I worked three days. I’m thinking it didn’t hurt them. I seem to have mor

I ❤️ early morning

It’s 73° on the porch this morning.  It’s partly cloudy, and pretty muggy.  I heard a rumor rain was returning. Bummer.  Birds are singing.  The cicada hum seems less noisy this morning.   My hummingbirds are at it this morning, too.  Very active.  And they’re very camera shy this year.   Prayers please for Ronnie Houchin’s family.  I understand he passed from a long fight with cancer.  His daughters will miss him terribly.   Please remember to pray for our leaders at all levels, your neighbors, friends and family.  Please especially remember those who have lost loved ones.  I love all y’all ❤️ Have a blessed day!

Beautiful Sunrise

It’s 0615 am. It’s a muggy 70° on the porch this morning. Birds are singing. A few night critters are still singing. Cicadas. Cicadas are doing their thing too. They could go away.  I’ve washed and filled my hummingbird feeders already this morning. I haven’t seen one yet. Feeders were last filled Sunday night.  They were really dry this morning.  Maybe they didn’t give up on me!! It’s been a really busy 3 days at work.  My orientee got some great experiences and was able to observe a major surgery! She’s grown so much over these past few days! Makes a “momma” proud! I feel like she’s gonna be one of our best nurses! I try to raise my babies the way I was raised, to raise them so I would let them take care of me and (them) not be afraid. I try to instill confidence in their decisions.   So. If you’re actually friends with me, you know I have been getting seasonal dish towels from Haley Ashley for over a year now.  Watch my Facebook for her next late summer creations for me. Ladies, she

Another Sunday Morning

Good morning! I’m up. My coffee is beside me. It’s 6am and a cool 70° on the porch. It’s overcast and has been raining. I can hear the creek running. That usually means we received at least 2 inches of rain recently and in a short period of time. All the water from this general area makes it to my creek. I woke to find several weather warnings that didn’t wake me. A few were tornado warnings. It doesn’t give a location for any of it. My app is set for Warren and Edmonson counties but I can’t tell where.   Yesterday’s storms caused a friend to lose her home when lightning struck, causing a fire. I know the house is likely a total loss with smoke and water damage as well. I’m unsure about their belongings at this point. For now, please remember them and their family in your prayers.  I’m sure someone will post necessity items as soon as they know! I know their pain. I also know the generosity of this community especially during loss. Let’s watch, pray, and help them recover!  I think I

Happy Saturday!

It’s a bit muggy on the porch this morning. It’s already 72° and there’s light fog. The colors of the sunrise are beautiful.  My photo does no justice to what I see.  Thursday morning I filled 2 hummingbird feeders. This morning I had to fill one! The other is more than half gone, so I’ll fill it in a bit. I wanted to sit on the porch a bit first.  In case you missed it, my mom is fine. Biopsy wasn’t needed after more pictures! Good for another year! With her already having had cancer, they are extra cautious!  It’s a beautiful morning! Get out and enjoy it! I am! I’m about to be in need of a second cup of coffee.  The birds are singing! There are so many this morning, I can’t pick them all out!  “ ๐ŸŽถ  And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily Oh joyfully, playfully watching me ๐ŸŽถ”* Back in the late 70s or early 80s, I absolutely loved Supertramp. “The Logical Song” was my favorite by them!  I also loved (and still love) Beatles music.  Please remember to pr

Blessed beyond measure! There was no biopsy- they just wanted more pictures with the possibility of needing a biopsy. She went from a more detailed mammogram over to ultrasound.  The radiologist studied the images with great detail.  It’s his opinion there’s nothing malignant! Follow up in a year!  Praises to God! To Him, the glory!

Four generations of Sanders men in the garden

Image
Well, maybe 3.25….. It’s in their blood I think. In my Facebook memories today, I found a memory of Carlos and Rick in their gardens. I went to Nick’s page and took a pic of Xa vier helping him till his garden. I put the three together and made a collage. I think Carlos and Rick would be proud to see Nick carrying on the tradition and teaching Xavier by example. Nick helped Rick in the garden, really even before he was really big enough.  Now, Xavier wants to be wherever dada is. I think it’s cool.  It’s a very muggy 72° on the porch this morning.it’s overcast.  I haven’t looked into the forecast for today yet, I hafta be inside this morning until after lunch anyway. My mom didn’t get a good report on her mammogram last week, you may recall about six years ago, she had a mastectomy for cancer.  Today, we go for a biopsy of what was found late last week. She’s very positive about it. She said if it’s cancer, then so be it. She’ll see Dr Wierson again and have the surgery.  Hopefully, th

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธWow! Two hundred forty five years as our own country! I can’t help but wonder what our founding fathers would think of our society today! I have my thoughts and beliefs on it, as I’m sure most other folks do, too. That’s one of the beauties of our great nation! Each person has the right to think and believe the way he (or she) chooses!  Get out this weekend. Spend time with family! Enjoy fireworks ๐Ÿ’ฅ if any are available.  Celebrate being part of this great nation.   It’s a very, very muggy 73° on the porch this morning. I hear all manner of fowl making their joyful noises.  They’re singing so happily; joyfully, playfully watching me…. ๐ŸŽถ (anyone catch that reference?  Kay, I know you do!)  It’s been a busy couple days at work. Active COVID numbers are way, way, way down.  Unfortunately, there remain some who it wasn’t kind to at all. Those folks and their loved ones continue to need our prayers.   My buddy is still sleeping this morning.  They weren’t home when I got home last nig
