Last Sunday in July!

Good morning! It’s a very muggy 75° on the porch already.  There’s light fog in the distance and a few clouds.  Intermittent rain was forecast for this afternoon.  Two years ago, according to my Facebook memories, it was 58° in the morning on this date.  Wish it was today.  

My friend in Logan county has been busy this morning already….. I do have laundry on (she’s completed 3 loads among most of her chores already!) and I filled the coffee pods holder…. And my hummingbird feeders are washed and filled. Meds are taken and I have my first cup of coffee going.  No one else is up yet so I haven’t started breakfast.  

As some of you know, my cousin found her dad passed away early Friday morning.  He appeared to have gone peacefully during the early hours. He’s someone I’ve known all my life.  He was my uncle, my high school bus driver, a preacher, and when I was in my teens, he was my boss.  I’ve spent many hours in his tobacco patch pulling plants to set.  He’d fly on that tractor and those riding the setter kept up without missing a hill.  My brothers worked for him much more though.  They also worked his hay fields.  I never heard a “bad word” out of his mouth.  Never once. His first 3 kids were older than me (meaning they were too old to play with us kids) and his oldest seems more like an aunt to me than cousin.  If I count correctly, he was number 5 of 12. Mom is number 11.  She was very little when he went to the army.  His youngest is 7 months younger than me.  Because of where birthdays fell, he was a grade behind me. Many of us younger cousins were very close growing up.  I don’t know his arrangements yet, other than he’s at Pattons.  If I count correctly, we only have 3 uncles left of 8 and my mom (4th if 4 girls). Rosie, Georgie, Howard, Valaria, Lelan, Owen, Pauline and Wade  are all gone, but many wonderful memories live on.   Please remember my family in your prayers as they prepare to lay Uncle Lelan to rest.  I can hear him singing “Hallelujah to Jesus who died on the tree” right now.  I gotta find that video.
